The Music of Oz

The Wizard’s fingers press gently
On smooth, silver strings
Shining chords, slowly evolving
A heart bleak and broken
To a paradise of color and light

The whispers of music
So soft and sweet
Form tearful notes that prod and kindle
A soul that was dead to a fervent, blazing life

Drifting down dusty yellow bricks
Of a road carrying him to oblivion
When the elixerous kiss of a song
Hit him
Square in the chest
And suddenly
Insides of tin swell with warmth and blood
And he wonders, “is this how it feels
To be alive?”
And he wishes it would never stop

But all songs come to an end
And hearts stop beating
And coldness seeps in
And he loses sight of Dorothy
And all of the sudden,

He’s metal again.
